Reporter, Red Light Despatch

Full-Time Position Available: Reporter, Red Light Despatch. Based in New Delhi.

 

 

Apne Aap is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Reporter for its monthly publication Red Light Despatch. The Despatch is written by women in prostitution and those living in red-light areas to provide an insight to society on the system of human trafficking. 
 

 

Apne Aap, founded in 2002 by its present day leader, Ruchira Gupta, has emerged over the past 7 years as a world leading grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to the global battle against human trafficking and has provided support to more than 10,000 women and children trapped in, or at risk of being trafficked for prostitution in India.  Apne Aap advocates self-help, self-organizing and self-empowerment to dismantle the system of sex-trafficking.  It collectivizes victims to rescue and serve each other and ask for access to education, safe housing, legal protection and dignified and sustainable livelihoods as basic rights. It organizes victims to speak out against the severe injustice of their own situation and the demand for purchased sex. For more information see: www.apneaap.org

 

 

Position Summary: The Reporter is a graduate who has worked in the social sector at the grassroots level and has writing skills.  The Reporter will collect and write stories under the guidance of the Assistant Editor for Red Light Despatch. Must be willing and able to travel within India.  Must be willing  to represent Red Light Despatch in different fora as and when required.
 

 

Key Responsibilities:
•    Documenting oral histories from red light areas and from victims and survivors of trafficking
•    Reporting on the trafficking system
•    Collecting inspirational stories
•    Writing features
•    Reporting events and conducting interviews
•    Documenting success stories
•    Suggesting story ideas
•    Assisting Sub-Editor cum Reporter if and when required
•    Complete all other assignments and perform other duties as assigned
 

 

Key Competencies:
•    Minimum education: BA
•    One year experience of working in the social sector
•    Understanding of human trafficking system
•    Ability to read, write, and analyze in Hindi
•    Good communication and analytical skills
•    Self-managed, passionate, and responsible individual
